The London Marathon would have taken place Sunday 26th April  2020. However, due to the Covid 19 Virus situation, the London Marathon has been postponed until October

So imagine if you were due to take part in that race, You would have done hours of preparation, road running time, and planning for the race. So here is a fun family /child-friendly version of the race that you can take part, in your home or garden!

This London Marathon inspired challenge will take you through the London landmarks. Along the way we will perform some movements or exercises inspired by those landmarks.

To start with we are going to jog or run through the activities for 26minutes and 2 seconds with is the course mileage but in time! (the course is 26.2 miles long ) .   Next time you decide to complete this race, you could try to beat your personal best!

So are you ready to Run!   …Let’s Go!

  1. Go find your trainers, put them on, check your shoelaces. Get your drink bottle ready  and a timer or stopwatch = 1 min
  2. You will need to do a warm-up to prepare your body for the following exercises.. Roll your shoulder back and increases too big arm circles. Roll your hips around in a clockwise direction repeat 3 times and then the other way. Lift your knees up and down  10 times and gradually build up to gentle running on the spot.  Make sure the warm-up only makes you warm NOT out of breath  2 min

You are now ready to complete the London Marathon!

Start running on the spot, or around the room or garden.

You have arrived at our first destination .. Greenwich.

Let’s carry on  Run around the room or garden for 30 seconds ….

You have arrived at the next landmark the Cutty Sark  ………………. Firstly the hoist the sails …………….  heave ho heave ho ! and now you are going to climb the rigging. Standing on the spot stretch your arms above your head, and lift your knees to your chest in an alternating fashion.  Preform the Cutty Sark action for 1min & 30 secs.

If we were actually running the course you have just completed 6.5 miles !!

keep going!  Let’s run to the next location.  Run around the garden or your home for 1 min .

You have arrived at your next Landmark. Welcome to Tower Bridge !. In mileage we are halfway around the circuit!

Have a go at making various Bridge positions with your body .= 3 mins .  You can try gymnastic type bridge positions, Yoga type bridge positions. And even try to open a bridge.Sit in a Vit sit shape and lower your upper body and lower body to the floor at the same time!  

Well done for completing so many Bridges, let’s get back to running. Run around your house or garden for 2 minutes.

 

Here we are we have arrived at The Shard. The Shard is an unusual looking building.  standing on 1 leg arms above your head    hold for 30 secs  for each leg ! 1 min total

You have arrived at the next landmark  Welcome to the Tower of London !. ….Well done   If we were actually running the circuit we would of ran 22.7 miles Keep Going we are nearly there !.  The Tower of London is famous for its Ravens.

Welcome to the London Eye. The London Eye is like an enormous fairground Ferris wheel !. Let’s see you do 3 x cartwheels! ..if you cant cartwheel just turn on the spot.  3 MIN 

Ok ..off we go again, can we run a little longer this time! …3 mins GO GO GO !!

We have reached  Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament!  The houses of Parliament were the site for the Gunpowder plot! Guy Fawkes . Preform 10 Star Jumps! start from the floor and explode upwards just like a Firework ! . 2 MINS. The houses of Parliament are where the MPs discuss and make the rules of the country. They spend a lot of time  doing this

Stand up, Sit down Stand Up Sit down and shouting  Order!   Repeat this 5 times!!

 

Let’s Go! back to running around your house or Garden, 2 MINS  we are running towards Buckingham Palace. Please do a courtesy or a bow to the Queen.

The Buckingham Palace exercise is changing of the Gaurd.
