During these unprecedented times the world-famous Garden show, Chelsea Flower Show has embraced the new normal, we now live in, and gone on-LINE. Even the Queen went online! to view the gardens during the exclusive event. It shows us, the teachers,coaches, instructor any kind of virtual media connection is possible
Teaching kids and Dance is very similar to doing Gardening!
As a teacher, concentrate on what you are good at in the garden of Dance!, for example, I cannot grow carrots in my garden !!, I have tried all sorts of different approaches, in my world of Dance, I cannot teach Tap! , my timing is always wrong, I over complicate things. I leave Tap teaching to other teachers, I leave carrot growing to other gardeners !. 🥕
Rotation of crop planting in the garden is very important, fresh ground is essential to new plants. Fresh approaches to Dance whether a teacher or a student will bring out the best result.
Some things in the Garden are always successful and are always reliable and useful. Potatoes will grow anywhere! , Potatoes are good for the ground because of the deep roots opening up the soil and increasing oxygen and nutrients into the ground. A comprehensive warm-up and a fun element are essential in Dance especially if working with young potatoes! (children ).
Some gardens contain Sculptures, in Dance we call that stillness its an important part of any Dance performance and garden as it makes the observer stop & absorb. Some Gardens are Contemporary and some are traditional.
Whatever the style all are enjoyable, to all, at some level.
There are many garden quotes but this one is my favorite, ” You can bury a lot of trouble digging in the dirt ” When teaching Dance I also bury any troubles.
